I saw the above photo this morning. Not sure who to give credit to — but it is pretty awesome.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving. There were lots and lots of people thinking about the reasons that they were thankful over dinner with family and friends.

I had a similar dinner at my parents house.

It was an early dinner so that members of the family could go and visit and have dinner and give thanks with other family later in the day.

This meant that by 2:30 my little ones were getting a bit out of control becasue of the lack of schedule and nap for the day.

THANK GOODNESS FOR NICE WEATHER AND A PARK DOWN THE ROAD.

They ran, climbed, rode bikes, and gathered sticks for 90 minutes. Played a few games upon arriving home and they were both asleep in the living room by 7:00pm.

So it is at this point that I am basically alone in the house with some chips, melted cheese, salsa and a bottle of  wine. The older boys are visiting family in Cleveland and the house is quiet except for the movie I chose to put in the DVD player. I scan through the phone to reread the text messages I received through the day from friends wishing me well on this day of family and offering me Happy Thanksgiving Wishes.

Sounds bad, huh?

A friend then posts at that very moment how much she is missing her mother. She wishes there is a way to still call her on Thanksgiving.

I let her know that there are ways to do that, still. That people are not lost, just moved and transformed. I remember to be thankful that I know this, instead of starting to be sorrowful of the solitary chip diving. It is always amazing to me how helping other siwht their troubles ALWAYS helps rearrange understanding of my own.

In fact, I realize that my choice of snack for the evening is one that Dean would often fix the two of us after the kids went to sleep and we decided to watch a movie. I realize that the movie is one that we would have watched together. I look at the children, one on the floor at my feet and the other on the couch next to me and am grateful that we have a comfortable home in which the kids can stay dry and warm and fall asleep early after a no nap, off schedule day devoted to thankfulness. I am thankful for all the texts and calls I have on my phone reminding me that there are a lot of positive thoughts flowing our way each and every day. I am thankful for the quiet time and snack on my lap reminding me Dean is still around to share the evening.

Be Well!

Thankful and Happy
