The big boys both had to work today. They are lifeguards. One at a pool and other at state park beaches.

The little ones and I floated today.

First Chillin at home…

Then the Community Pool –which is an awesome place to go. I am very grateful it is nearby

AND then we went to an extended family get-to-gether. This is my Mom’s Mother’s side of the family.

Where I took a selfie with Cousin Tammy

And the boys swam in Great-Aunt Helen’s pool — the same one I played in when I was their age with Tammy and Christian and then Cousin Christian took time to play some basketball with the boys
On the way home we stopped at ‘Daddy’s favorite Icecream place’ – Hanks Frozen Custard
The best part about the day was about 5 minutes ago when both Galen and Cian said thanks for the day. They thought it was the ‘most awesome Fourth of July Ever’. Cracks me up — because I had decided that I was not going to knock myself out this year even trying to find out where there would be fireworks or making big plans and figured we would just travel where the waves of the day took us.  And of course the teacher part of me took over for a tiny bit of time as I was trying to explain just why we have a holiday like today in the first place.
A dream to be able to have the ability to ‘pursue happiness’ — I know that it is much more than that — I know that I used to take a very long time in the classroom going over all the ins and outs of American Independence. Yet, today, the ability to just be with the children was the part of this country that I found myself the most grateful for and that my children also enjoyed the freedom to just be little buggers, enjoying family and icecream.
One last tid bit to share. As we were driving home from picking up frozen treats the passenger alarm started going off in the car. The one that tells the person sitting there to buckle the seat belt. When it started going off Galen asked what the noise was. I said the car thinks that someone is sitting in the passenger seat. Cian said, very matter a factually that the car knew that Daddy had joined the ride and was in the seat.
Enjoy your own versions of happiness, whatever they may be.
Don’t take any second of any of it for granted; especially the children. They understand much more than we adults give them credit sometimes.
Happy 4th!
